What is the ÖGUT Environmental Award?
The ÖGUT Environmental Award is presented by the Austrian Society for Environment and Technology (ÖGUT) and honors pioneering projects that promote sustainable innovations. The focus is on ecological, social, and economic aspects. The award highlights companies, research initiatives, and organizations that make a significant contribution to a more sustainable future
Our RedRec Red Sludge Recycling team was recognized for its groundbreaking approaches in recycling red sludge. This project sets new standards in the management of industrial aluminum waste, particularly the so-called red sludge. By efficiently processing this waste, not only are valuable resources recovered, but the environmental impacts caused by the disposal and processing of aluminum are drastically reduced. The production and disposal of aluminum industry waste is associated with significant environmental consequences—from the destruction of ecosystems to high CO₂ emissions, which threaten both nature and the health of humans and animals. The innovative approach of this project helps reduce the negative impacts on the environment and society, while shaping a more sustainable future – a prime example of sustainability in action.
